Hawaii

Happy 10th Anniversary to me and Scott!! We celebrated early by going to Hawaii, without the boys. It was AMAZING. We went to Kauai for a few days, then to Maui. It was great to be really busy and adventurous on Kauai, and then relax and take it slow on Maui.

We flew in on Saturday, so we just got some groceries and went to our hotel. Sunday we went to church, in a tiny ward nearby. We went for a drive later, and saw some fun stuff. We went to Poipu beach right by our hotel. Then we saw Spouting Horn, a place with a weird cavity in the rocks, and water shoots up when the waves crash, and whistles (kind of sounds like a horn). Then, after dinner, we went back to Poipu Beach and watched the sunset.

Monday we went to Wailua Falls. You can't really hike to it, so we just drove. We also went to Opeakaa Falls. Both were so beautiful. Then we took a Helicopter Tour, which was amazing! Well, except the part where I threw up. I didn't think it would be quite so dizzying... Anyway, that night we watched the sun set at Salt Pond Beach. It was a nice, sandy beach (unlike Poipu). We had fun finding different beaches, pretty much the whole time. They were all different, but all incredible.

Tuesday we took a kayak up a river and hiked to a place called Secret Falls (which apparently hasn't been a secret for a very long time... lots of people hiked out there). It was beautiful, and the water was freezing -but of course we had to swim by the falls! Then we drove to Kilauea Lighthouse, Hanalei Pier, and Maniniholo Dry Cave -and the beach next to it. We shared a coconut, too, which was pretty yummy. I'd never had one before.

Wednesday we flew to Maui. We just explored the beach by our hotel, and the shops down the road in Lahaina. There were soooo many great places to eat there!

Thursday we drove part of the road to Hana. Honestly, it was the only thing that was a bit of a let-down. People told it was wicked pretty and there were tons of great waterfalls and everything... Maybe it was because we'd just been in Kauai, but it wasn't really that spectacular (ok, it was HAWAII, but still). And we didn't see a lot of places with amazing views or anything. We did find one great place. We hiked to a place called Twin Falls. It was a good hike, and the waterfall was really beautiful -and not as popular as Secret Falls, so that was nice. We swam for a while, and then came back.

Friday we went to a famous breakfast place called The Gazebo. The wait was too long, but the food really was amazing. I had banana white chocolate chip pancakes with coconut syrup. I could have eaten those every day!! We bought some coconut syrup to bring home. Mmmm. We also got massages, which was awesome.

Saturday we had a late breakfast again, and then went snorkeling. It was awesome! We tried to get to a beach that was packed (and parking is impossible there), so we just drove down the road and hoped for the best. The beach we chose worked just fine. We didn't see much at first, but then we saw lots of colorful fish and two sea turtles. The tide started making the water murky, but we'd seen enough by then.

Sunday we went to church, then just relaxed at the resort the rest of the day. It was such a beautiful place. Lahaina was nice and close to plenty of restaurants and shops, and our hotel balcony gave us a great sunset view every night.

Our trip was amazing. The boys kept asking if they could come next time, and I said yes, so we'll see if that ever happens  ;)  I did miss them, but it was so great to have Scott all to myself and just relax for a few days. Hopefully we get to do something for our 20th anniversary, too!
